The short version: What's That HAZMAT does not sell your data, does not track you, and does not share your information with advertisers. Camera images are processed by AI and never stored. Location data is used only when you request Nearby Facilities and is never saved.

INFORMATION WE COLLECT
Camera & Images
When you photograph a HAZMAT placard, the image is compressed on your device and sent to Anthropic's API for AI analysis. The image is not stored by us beyond the duration of the API request. We do not access your camera roll or other photos.
Location Data
Location access is entirely optional and only requested when you tap "Find Nearby Facilities" in the Pro version. Your location is never stored, logged, or transmitted to our servers.
Scan History
Pro scan history is stored locally on your device only. It is never transmitted to our servers and is deleted when you clear your history or uninstall the app.
Subscription Information
Payment is handled entirely by Apple or Google. We never see your payment details or billing information.

- We do not collect your name, email, or personal identifying information
- We do not use cookies or tracking pixels
- We do not run analytics or track app usage
- We do not use advertising networks or share data with advertisers
- We do not sell your data to any third party, ever
- We do not store scan history or location data on our servers
THIRD-PARTY SERVICES
Anthropic — Images are sent to Anthropic's Claude API for placard identification. Anthropic processes data per their privacy policy at anthropic.com/privacy.
Apple App Store / Google Play — Subscription management is handled by Apple and Google per their respective privacy policies.
PERMISSIONS REQUESTED
- Camera — Required to photograph HAZMAT placards. Only accessed when you tap the camera button.
- Photo Library — Optional. Only accessed if you upload an existing photo.
- Location — Optional. Only requested when you tap "Find Nearby Facilities." Not tracked in background.
CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
What's That HAZMAT is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. Contact us at whatsthathazmat@gmail.com if you have concerns.
DATA SECURITY
Since we do not store your personal data on our servers, there is minimal risk of a data breach. Camera images are transmitted over HTTPS and are not retained. Scan history exists only on your device, protected by your device's own security.

What's That HAZMAT is for reference purposes only. Always call 911 in an emergency. Do not rely solely on this app for life-safety decisions. AI interpretation may not be 100% accurate.
CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
If we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
